With Pix and Kardz offer to show off my bee pic (nowhere near as good as this amazing photo), I started to look for it through the hundreds of old photos I’ve got stored away on CD’s
These were all taken on 1st August 2004, with my old Canon EOS10D.
For any Yorkshire folk out there, you will probably know that the 1st of August is Yorkshire Day, so I really should have been taking photos of white roses 😳 but this lavender was just asking to be photographed.
All the photos are from a small lavender farm just outside the village of Snowshill in the Cotswolds. This farm used to allow folk to wander free amongst the lavender bushes, to take photos, watch the distillery produce the oils, and breathe in the beautiful scent the plant produces. I’m afraid the days of wandering for free have gone, as they now charge an entry fee during the flowering season 😦

charging admission fees seems to be a universal trend. while i understand that maintenance and upkeep does cost, there are many things in my corner of the planet that have become un-free as well. i guess it is a matter of enjoying what you can when you can – one of them being wordpress and their brilliant blog themes and resources. 🙂

Once I’d started looking through my CD’s I was quite shocked at the amount of photos I found that I’d completely forgotten about.
This is an absolutely lovely post and so timely as I was in Snowshill today (went to Broadway Tower) and passed right by the lavender fields, although they’re barely green right now. After seeing your photos, I’m especially looking forward to the July blooms.

Ooo!, that’s amazing, as you say, how well timed that was.
I’ve done many a walk around that area, and really love it there, there’s usually loads of poppies in the nearby fields around the same time too.
Are you based local to there, or just passing through?
I can certainly recommend a visit July/August.

I live in the area, or I should say within about an hour’s drive. I hadn’t heard about the poppies. Now I look forward to seeing those, too.

That was the DSLR I told you about that suffered with dust problems.
I still have very mixed feelings about getting another DSLR for that reason, and the fact I’m happy with my Panasonic FZ28.
You need to work in a camera shop, where you can test them all out as the new ones come in 😉
Thing is V, I don’t see any problems, dust or no, with those photos. They are beautiful. Of course you could have spent hours photoshopping them 🙂
No photoshopping on any of those, as the dust marks are never noticed on a busy photo, but it is so noticible on plain colours, I have several from the same day that are ruined because of it 😦
