Now that’s what I call snow!

Waking up Friday morning we’d half expected the scene that greeted us when we opened the curtains.
The weather forecast had predicted heavy falls of snow sweeping up from the south west.
It was certainly that, there was already about two inches, and it was still falling from the sky in big flakes.
It was the first big fall of snow since I retired just over a year ago, and I didn’t have to worry about going to work…..What a wonderful feeling.

T had already been out to get his daily paper and some milk, but like kids with a new snowfall, we were both eager to be out to walk on some virgin snow.
The dogs were just as eager to go for a walk, so we decided to walk them through the Pleck (the nearby playing field) and up to the main road to see how the traffic was coping.
We decided we’d better not take Cindy with us as the snow was now around five inches deep and still coming down.

The Pleck was full of kids (schools obviously closed) on sledges having a whale of a time.

My mind drifted back to many years ago, when our girls were young, we’d bought them a plastic sledge and taking it in turn had gone down the slope two at a time.
For the grand finale, all four of us sat on the sledge. Setting off from the top of the slope, with the weight of two adults and two kids we soon gathered speed, halfway down the slope where there is a steep drop we took off, crashing down onto the lower part of the slope, the sledge broke up into several pieces, leaving us all in a heap screaming with laughter.

We continued up to the main road, before turning round and retracing our tracks.
Both dogs love the snow, Jasp perked up, even trying to run at times.

By the time we got home, I decided to measure the depth of snow on the decking rails….almost six and a half inches….and STILL snowing.

As for T, yes, he’s still wearing shorts, much to everyone’s amusement.

A short video below, with Status Quo’s Down down, deeper and down:

  1. I’m just getting to the point I’ve been able to look at a few posts… we’ve been back since very late last Sunday, hit the ground running at the office, and so early the next Sunday morning it is fabulous to see your post & the video. The snow looks magical, well chilly but magical, and I’m sure quite impractically magical if you have things to do… So many things to love about that clip – Sal’s joy in the snow, Jasp walking exactly in your footprints, and Jasp waiting for you to catch up. I’m also quite mesmerised by T’s bare legs ๐Ÿ˜‰ Oh, and rest assured even in the down jacket you look very slender on film… they say it’s the film that adds kilos ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Slightly different to your weather eh? LOL
Glad you had a good break, hope you feel refreshed until the next one.
I love the snow now I don’t have to be anywhere, but yes it was a total pain when I was working. My Discovery is brilliant in the snow, but the roads get littered with abandoned vehicles blocking the routes.
Thank you for your ‘slender’ comment, I feel like Michelin man in that jacket, but it’s worth it for its warmth.:-)

  2. Great video and great music! ๐Ÿ™‚

My wife and I did feel a tad sorry for Jasper who looked like he really would have preferred to be at home in front of a fire. It reminded us of the look our youngest daughter gives when we go for a long walk and it is usually accompanied by the ‘Are we nearly home yet?’

    • Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚
Ha ha, I remember so well the ‘are we nearly there yet’ and ‘are we nearly home yet’ from my girls when they were young.
I wonder what Sal and Jasp would say if they could speak ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Forgot to comment on this!! Read it the other night when I was whacked and realised today I’d said nowt ๐Ÿ˜€ LS glides over the snow. Amazing! Jasp may well need some booties methinks ๐Ÿ™‚

You know it is so long since I saw snow like that. A couple of falls in Newcastle and I was out in the evening to play, but gone by the next day ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

A was useless on guessing Status Quo. Idiot ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Boots for J would be a good idea, the snow just balls up between his pads.
More snow forecast overnight……I’m getting fed up with it now.
๐Ÿ˜ฎ I though everyone would know that Quo song ๐Ÿ˜‰
